Control of Destiny
Control of destiny is simply a feeling of ability to deal with the forces that affect our lives. Some scientists say that control of destiny, also called empowerment, is the most important health determinant and it can have a great impact on our health. Life Compass: Uncovering What We Really Want
“The worst thing in life is to aim low and miss.” – Dr. Randy Ellis
Do you have dreams? Do you know what you want from your life? Have you set goals to reach those dreams?
Goals help us to feel that our life has a purpose. They help us feel that we strive to achieve something important. They help us keep going every day. In essence, they help us to be happy. But how do we know that the goals we selected are truly ours? What if those goals were imposed on us by someone else (our parents, our teachers or our society)? And what if after achieving those goals we will feel empty inside and will realize that the effort and time we spent was not worth it?
The other day I was reviewing my goals. There is a book on my bookshelf: “Goals!” by Brian Tracy. (The key chapter (chapter 5), along with some other chapters of this book, are available on Google Books for free preview.) I found the book very useful and applicable to my situation. I hope you will find it useful too.
What worked for me was answering the question: what are three most pressing problems or worries right now in my life?
Prior to asking that question I had difficulties seeing my goals clearly. But after answering the question and turning the answers to their opposites I found the answer. It was like going from “what is bugging me now?” to “what do I want to achieve to stop that bugging?”.
Do you find it useful setting goals in your life? How do you do that? How do you know what is truly important in your life? I would love to hear about your experiences. Please, share them with all of us. Thank you!
